Audi will release in third quarter this year amazing bulletproof vehicle, the Audi A8 L Security. This beast received official certification of the German Bombardment Office, because it meets requirements of ballistic class VR 7 on the BRV (Bullet Resistant Vehicles) 2009. The class VR 7 has the most stringent requirements such as glazing of vehicle cell must withstand firing with NATO hard-core ammunition. But this is not the end. In some parts this A8 even meets criteria of VR 9 and VR 10 classes on the Directive 2010 ERV (Explosions Resistant Vehicles), which means the resistance to explosions and withstand attack with military hand grenades. A8 L Security even features special intercom system with speaker and microphones, which enable communication for indoor and outdoor use even with the windows closed. It’s also packed with special fire extinguishing system, which is activated by thermal sensor or by pressing a key and with emergency fresh air system, which prevents the penetration of toxic gases. For such a level of security are used the following materials: multilayer glass, aluminum, ceramics, hot-formed armored steel, aramid fabric and special alloys. And if that’s not enough for you, Audi also deals with your individual special needs.
Regarding performance specifications, A8 L Security comes in two versions, the 4.0 TFSI and the W12 FSI. The 4.0 TFSI has 4.0-liter eight-cylinder engine with 435 hp and 600Nm of torque. The W12 FSI has twelve-cylinder engine with 500 hp and 625Nm of torque. Both versions have quattro all-wheel drive and eight-stage Tiptronic power transmission.
