Foxconn is world’s biggest contract electronics maker and it’s used by most of technology giants around the world, including Sony, Apple, Microsoft, HP and Nokia. The company employs ca. 800,000 workers worldwide and has labor issues since 2010. The company has recently issued a statement in which admits labor violation at China factory. It hired underage students, who also worked overtime and night shift.
In 2010 13 employees committed suicide at its Chinese plants and the company also temporarily shut down a unit in India after 250 workers fell sick. In 2011 2 employees were killed after an explosion at a plant in Chengdu. The company has responded by raising wages, shortening working hours, employing counsellors on site and it even installed suicide nets to factory living-quarters at Shenzhen factory.
