Stephen Hicks (University of Oxford) developed smart glasses that translates visual information into images that blind people can see. They also have gyroscope, compass and GPS to help orient. These glasses feature OLED displays and objects can be made clearer against the background or the distance to obstacles can be indicated by the varying brightness of images. Hicks even won the Royal Society’s Brian Mercer Award for Innovation and received £50,000. The money will be used for further development of glasses.
